When it’s got to be right, it’s got to be Writeword.

An individualised approach

Most recently I have taught in the European Schools system (EU institutions) but throughout my career, I have taught English in the UAE, UK and Germany to a range of students: adults and children; native and non-native speakers of English; from beginners to advanced.  These students required an individualised approach to help them achieve their learning goals.

And I apply the same individualised approach when proofreading and editing for my business clients.

Intercultural insight

When I worked abroad, I learned a lot about how intercultural differences affect the way people work and communicate.

The English language is rich with idioms, proverbs and puns. British readers know what it means if someone’s ‘on a sticky wicket’, but what if your reader is in a country where they don’t play cricket? You can’t assume they will know what it means.

If your message is meant for a global audience, you have to be sure it will be understood globally, and that your reader doesn’t get confused because of too many culturally-specific references.

I can make sure you avoid these pitfalls and the unintended consequences which they can have.
